The Wingfield features a smaller than normal but very distinguished looking knight and a proportionately large rook. Many players like this adaptation because the the more powerful rook. The Wingfield is the perfect size for tournament play. The king, queen, and bishop colums have noticeably less curvature than more contemporary designs, reminiscent of old Staunton patterns.
