The Wingfield features a smaller than normal but very distinguished looking knight and a proportionately large rook. Many players like this adaptation because the the more powerful rook. The Wingfield is the perfect size for tournament play. The king, queen, and bishop colums have noticeably less curvature than more contemporary designs, reminiscent of old Staunton patterns. | My red sandalwood set is exquisitely colored and the boxwood is also made of very high quality. The kingâs base is incorrectly listed at 1.5â (actual is 1.625â). The knights are well carved but smaller than usual proportion and the rooks are very stout. This seems fine as I like rooks to look stronger than bishops or knights and still remain shorter than both. While I like this slender style but I missed the curvy look and feel of pieces.
