Our Philidor Staunton chess set is named after Francois-Andre Danican Philidor, a famous chess player in the 1700’s whom was known for his ability to play 3 opponents simultaneously while blindfolded – and win! Our Philidor is purely traditional with elegant knights having very much an old Jaques flavor. The pieces are masterfully turned and carved with precision and polished to a beautiful luster. Pieces are heavily weighted and have wonderful feel and balance on the chess board. Philidor would have loved playing with this chess set.
