Our Philidor Staunton chess set is named after Francois-Andre Danican Philidor, a famous chess player in the 1700's whom was known for his ability to play 3 opponents simultaneously while blindfolded and win! Our Philidor is purely traditional with elegant knights having very much an old Jaques flavor. The pieces are masterfully turned and carved with precision and polished to a beautiful luster. Pieces are heavily weighted and have wonderful feel and balance on the chess board. Philidor would have loved playing with this chess set.
