Landsknecht Brass Chess Set

Imported from Italy, this beautiful chess set from Italfama portrays the life of the Landsknechts. The Landsknechts were an army of mercenaries formed in in the mid 1400s by Maximilian I. The Landsknecht's were noted for their elaborate dress that included slashed doublets, and puffed shirts, colorful hose, and a beret-type hat with large feathers protruding out and upward. They were easily recognized as Landsknecht's.
