    OMG ✔️

OMG - this set is beautiful, exceeded my expectations. Nice weight to the pieces. Coloring is great. It's going to serve well as a replacement to my onyx pieces that have become fragile/brittle over the years.

    Very Good Inexpensize Chess Pieces

Posted by Bob Berman on 6th Sep 2016

This is a great medium-large set of chess pieces, perfect for beginners or for someone that does not wish to spend heavily on a chess set. I have an inexpensive, but very nice wood board with 1 9/16" (1.5625") squares making a 12.5" square playing field. This set fills it very nicely and will fit well on boards with 1.5" to 1.75" squares. The white pieces are very attractive and nicely finished in boxwood with the appropriate yellow to golden color. The dark pieces are of "golden" rosewood (whatever that is - perhaps a local name for a lesser quality rosewood?). They are stained a fairly uniform brown with the wood grain remaining obvious resulting in the finish having a slight tooth (not perfectly smooth), but they look good. All pieces are weighted giving an excellent feel to the knights, bishops, queens and kings. The rooks and pawns are less weighted. The French Lardy Staunton design is well executed, but it lacks the fine details of much more expensive sets. The pieces were well produced and proportioned on a lath with minimal hand work. The knights are stylized, but attractively so and portions of these pieces appear to be hand carved. Obviously, on a set as inexpensive as this quality craftsmanship (hand work) must be minimized. Still, this is a very attractive chess set! One correction the base of the king is 1.25". The individual piece sizes are as follows: King: 3.25" x 1.25" diameter Queen: 2.85" x 1.25" Bishop: 2.56" x 1.125" Knight: 2.375" x 1.125" Rook: 1.94" x 1.125" Pawn: 1.75" x 0.95"

I thought this was a great price for the quality of the chess pieces. They are well made and sturdy. We loved the felt on the bottom, they were well attached to the pieces unlike some pieces we've had before. The pieces have worked great for us, we got them in a timely manner and we are overall very happy with the service and the product. Thank you, we will be loyal customers from now on.
