African Padauk is one of the most colorful of the exotic woods and it makes an eye-catching chess set. The Fierce Knight has everything you look for in a fine Staunton wood chess set. The knight has intricately carved detail and a countenance that gives it the character for which it was named. The king is 3" tall with a 1.5" wide base and has a traditional formee cross. The bases of the pieces are heavily weighted for exceptional stability on the chess board. The bottoms of the pieces are padded with thick green baize for a nice cushion and easy sliding on the chess board. Pieces are individually hand polished to a beautiful luster. The chess board is nothing short of a fine piece of handmade furniture. Constructed from solid wood, it has 3 tiers rising up to the playing surface and elegantly molded edges.
