Ebonized Boxwood is simply boxwood with a deep, solid black stain to simulate real ebony. Ebonized boxwood is popular because it's less than half the price of a comparable real ebony set but with a near ebony look. The black chess pieces create a spectacular contrast with the rich orange-brown color of the mahogany and maple chess board.
